I am a well established and professionally qualified Youth and Community Worker with more than 32 years experience. I have worked in Public Health, Social Services, Education, Young Peoples Services and art and creativity have always been a major part of my practice. During my career I have gained significant experience in project management, staff development and initiative education. I am now an established and valued European Youth Work Trainer within the European Unions Youth Programme 'Erasmus+' and one of the founder members of the 'International Youth Work Trainers GUILD'. Throughout my training and facilitation in this field I have demonstrated a strong level of knowledge, experience and passion for “Youth Participation” and “Global Education and Citizenship” and been engaged in a wide variety of other initiatives. In the UK my work sees me delivering the Arts Award, Curious Minds, LeftCoast and many other organisations.
I am an active Arts Award practitioner and Adviser at all levels, and a moderator and until recently was trainer for Bronze, Silver and Gold. Throughout all areas of training delivery and programme design I have a proven track record in delivery and my solution-focussed approach to achieve excellent outcomes for the organisations, young people and the communities I work for.
I have been a freelance worker for over 16 years now and in this time I have also been engaged with supporting and initiating several other community led social enterprises. These have included an international youth led organisation called Planet Exposure, an intercultural music project called Blackpool Promoting Music and more recently Think Forward a youth community development and training organisation.
More recently my engagement in the creative industries has led me to become a festival director and curator for Small Corner of the World as well as many other creative and artistic initiatives and I have recently embarked on a professional development programme through LeftCoast called ‘The Academy’ as part of my own going development.
My other interests and activities include being a world beat music rustler and DJ-ing and whenever possible walking some mountain or riding one of my many bikes. I embrace the opportunities travel brings and enjoy the great outdoors.
“Buzz has the perfect balance of professional insight and creative intuition, he is very organised and prepared and yet can pivot quickly to respond to the needs of the group. He is an excellent communicator in regard to digesting the needs and concepts of the client and also in delivering this creatively and clearly in training activities. I have always found Buzz to be easy to work with, to be diligent in delivery and reporting and to be a very pleasant and professional person.”
- Lorraine Gilligan, Youth and Adult Education Manager at Leargas, Ireland
